Request a Peace Park Guide

Hiroshima Interpreters for Peace (HIP) is a group of volunteer guides and interpreters based in Hiroshima. HIP started in 1984 and has around 200 members today.

Our members provide English tours of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park for foreign visitors who want to learn about the realities of the atomic bombing. Guiding in the park takes approximately 1.5 hours.

We recommend you visit the Peace Memorial Museum to get information about the atomic bombing before taking a guided tour in the park. All of the exhibition articles in the Museum have descriptions in English, so you can see them at your own pace. It usually takes about 1 hour, though for some it can take longer.

We require the following fees:
– Service fee to HIP: 1,000 yen per arrangement for individuals
– Transportation fee for volunteers: 1,000 yen per volunteer

If you have one person acting as your guide, the total charge will be 2,000 yen (1,000 yen as a fee to HIP, and 1,000 yen to cover the guide’s transportation). Sometimes assistant guides may attend, but you do not have to pay for their transportation.

We announce guide opportunities to our membership after we receive a request. Please submit your request at least 10 days in advance of your visit to the Peace Park. If the interval is less than 10 days, it becomes less likely that we will be able to find a guide for you.

Also, please let us know the latest date by which you require confirmation that we have found a guide for your visit to the Peace Park.
